Collected texts introducing the thinking process of an Ambient Token

*

The Ambient Tokens are locations of the unformed within the formed, like shells left after
a reminder, now memories for future-use. They hold nebulous’ inside of material and concrete
sculptural things. They propose scenarios of arranged thoughts conscribed within a
composition. They sequence units akin to mimetic projections, yet remain solidly in their own
world.

Nodes, lines, triangles, moons and flags.
A fence of dots, a string of strangers.
Triangles, blocks, stripes, all in line at the club.
Wall reliefs decorating a temple.
A spilled month of medication.

All the objects you see here, you’ve seen in a drawer: they are anything, and nothing: diagrams
of something: permanent abbreviations engulfing everything in their ambience.

Ambience is the unseen, unformed, and temperamental condition of an environment; a
sprawling natural cosmological atmosphere. It is fluid, like water. To be engulfed in ambience is
to slowly become it; suspended and forever held. Ambience distorts. It is sensed, affecting, and
imagined. It’s all around and endlessly shifting.

A token gives form to an idea. It is a placeholder, a host. It is an abstract value, like an
ancient coin. An object to represent a thought. A thing that is perceived amongst many. It is a
compliment. It works to communicate the ideas, conversations, and events that led to its object
state. A token is a memory, existing for future use while simultaneously occupying the present.
It is the shell of a reminder. It travels through time.

The Ambient Tokens purpose these locations of fleeting certainty. With their nodes, dots,
lines, triangles, moons and flags, they sequence scenarios where thoughts are arranged as
units and conscribed for use within varying material compositions. The materials are synthetic
because the ideas are synthetic; copying, referencing, and appropriating; a series of sub-
culturally skewed mimetic projections re-translated into cuneiformic alphabets of colour and
shape. The moments used for their creation propose scenarios by their location; spreading
along the walls, augmenting corners, and isolating moments in space, while distributing a
language disturbed by the strangeness of their form.

Motifs of soft sci-fi psychedelia will gather to stage this assembly; ephemeral aura, silver
membranes of sound, and images of invited guests. Uncanny familiarity coats this room;
engulfing everything in their ambient condition.
